The Springer Spaniel originated in the 1700’s. It is the founder of all the English hunting spaniels. The Springer Spaniel stands predecessor to the Clumber, the Welsh Springer, the Sussex, the Field, the Irish Water, and the Cocker Spaniel. The breed has a powerful body and is an avid hunter. It has long, hanging ears and a long coat which can be a mixture of black, liver, blue or white color.
English Springers are even-tempered, calm, amiable, and sociable dogs, which make good companions to children. Intelligent and skillful, the breed is a quick learner. The dog loves to play tricks, hence keep itself busy and enjoys the company of their owners. They are quick animals which depict all the characteristics of a brave valuable pet. Some English Springers are susceptible to hip dysplasia, PFK, a blood disorder, and PRA, which affects the eyes and epilepsy. The breed should not be overfed as overfeeding them cause obesity which in turn could lead to multiple health issues. They have an average lifespan of about 12-14 years. This breed does not shed much.
