Pointer is known to have originated in England. This dog is clearly distinguished as it has a long neck. They are full of energy and are enthusiastic dogs. They prove to be good family pets since they are very affectionate and enjoy the company of children. One of the remarkable features in this breed is that they can feel human emotions; nervous owners will have nervous pointers. Hence, these dogs should be kept under proper authority otherwise they may show behavior problems. The dog does not show much aggressiveness. Thus they are good with other pets in the household. These dogs are quite susceptible to hip dysplasia, dwarfism, thyroid and skin conditions. They are good as jogging companions. Some are good swimmers and retrievers although they are not trained for these activities. They should not be taken on as a family pet unless plenty of vigorous exercise is guaranteed. Average life expectancy of this breed is about 13-14 years. The coat of the Pointer is smooth and very easy to groom. The breed is very sensitive to cold temperatures.
